　　According to a report by the People's Political Consultative Conference Network on March 17 (Reporter: Mao Liping), at the start of the 2020 Spring Festival, a sudden outbreak of COVID-19 deeply concerned people across the country. Gai Songmei, a member of the Wuhan Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, deputy secretary of the Party committee, and chairwoman of the trade union of Renfu Pharmaceutical Group, immediately put aside her own family concerns and bravely stepped forward to fight the epidemic. On the front lines of the epidemic response, she was the dedicated “flag-bearer” in the eyes of the group’s Party members; a heartwarming “volunteer” in the hearts of grassroots residents; and a caring “family member” to the company’s employees...

　　Renfu Pharmaceutical Group has been designated by the Hubei Province Epidemic Prevention and Control Command as a supplier for procuring epidemic prevention materials, and it shoulders the critical task of delivering essential supplies to frontline hospitals. As the deputy secretary of the Party Committee at Renfu Pharmaceutical Group, in charge of Party building work, Gai Songmei sprang into action at the first sign of the call, stepping up as a “flag-bearer.” Due to epidemic prevention and control measures, the company faced an acute shortage of personnel on the front lines of the fight against the epidemic. Therefore, she issued an initiative—“As a Party member, I’ll take the lead”—to all grassroots Party organizations and Party members across the group, calling on all Party members to stay true to their original aspirations and fulfill their missions through concrete actions, and urging Party members to step forward at critical moments. Under her organizational leadership, Renfu Pharmaceutical Group established a temporary Party branch dedicated to epidemic prevention, formed volunteer service teams and vanguard teams composed of Party members. More than 80 Party members went to the Renfu Logistics Center in Hubei to handle the handling and distribution of epidemic prevention supplies; over 10 Party members went down to the grassroots level to serve as volunteers; 16 employees applied to join the Party on the front lines; and more than 350 Party members participated in donations to support the epidemic response, with total donations exceeding 100,000 yuan.

　　“The Wuhan epidemic situation is severe. Have any of the company’s employees been infected with the virus? Are there any employees who need assistance?” As the chairperson of the trade union at Renfu Pharmaceutical Group, Gai Songmei has specially established a Renfu Medical Mutual Aid Group. Union officials now collect daily reports on the health status of employees from each unit, adding those employees in need of assistance to the medical mutual aid group. They’ve also invited hospital doctors to provide medical consultation services for these employees, hired psychological counselors to offer mental health support to employees experiencing high levels of stress, and assigned dedicated personnel to deliver medication to employees who require it. In this way, every employee in need can feel the company’s care and warmth.

　　During the pandemic, more than 500 employees and volunteers from Renfu Pharmaceutical Group remained steadfastly at their posts. Gai Songmei led teams on multiple occasions to go deep into the grassroots frontline, delivering protective supplies and comfort items to employees. She also coordinated extensively with hotels to provide delicious meals for the staff, enabling them to focus on their work with peace of mind.

　　“Urgent call for assistance! The Wuhan Novel Pneumonia Prevention and Control Command has instructed us to deliver medical supplies to 17 hospitals within four hours. Right now, we’re short of vehicles and are asking for volunteer support.” At 8 p.m. on January 29, Wang Xuefeng, head of the Hubei Renfu Logistics Center, issued an urgent plea for help in a volunteer group.

　　“I’ll be there right away.” As soon as she saw the message, Gai Songmei— who had spent the entire day busily working in the community during the daytime—responded while putting on her protective gear and hopping into her private car to head out again. Whenever an urgent nighttime delivery task came up, she was always the first to sign up. After finishing loading the vehicle with other volunteers shortly after 9 p.m., she delivered the goods to the designated hospital just after 11 p.m. By the time she got home, it was already past midnight. The next day, she’d have to get up early again to join her team in providing door-to-door temperature checks, delivering vegetables, and dispensing medication in the community. She worked tirelessly, day and night, for over a month straight.

　　To win the battle against the epidemic, Gai Songmei, representing the company, actively organized efforts to donate epidemic prevention supplies. On January 25—the first day of the Lunar New Year—Renfu Pharmaceutical Group donated 120 ventilators and 2,000 antiviral medications to the Wuhan Red Cross Society. On February 25, Renfu Pharmaceutical Group donated supplies—including masks and protective suits—worth 1.15 million yuan to the East Lake High-tech Development Zone. As of now, Renfu Pharmaceutical Group and its subsidiaries have collectively donated goods and funds totaling over 37 million yuan. In addition, she has been actively working hard to procure epidemic prevention supplies for enterprises and institutions. She helped the municipal trade union coordinate the donation of 21,000 masks from overseas and assisted numerous enterprises and institutions in procuring protective supplies worth over 3 million yuan, thereby alleviating their urgent needs. Moreover, personally, she also donated protective suits and masks to the communities she is connected with and where she lives, providing support and protection for community volunteers.

　　She embodies her original aspiration with unwavering loyalty and fulfills her mission through practical actions. As a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Gai Songmei has paid close attention to public sentiment and people’s voices during the epidemic response, actively offering advice and suggestions for Wuhan’s fight against the pandemic. In particular, she has vigorously advocated for the implementation of the proposal to “make use of hotels, gymnasiums, and schools and strengthen differentiated treatment.” She has also proactively put forward such ideas and suggestions as “recommending that Party members and cadres be assigned to communities nearby” and “addressing the difficulties faced by patients with chronic and severe illnesses in accessing medical care and obtaining medications.”
