Recently, Yichang Renfu Pharmaceutical received the “Drug Registration Certificate” for nicotinic acid sustained-release tablets, approved and issued by the National Medical Products Administration. The product was approved for marketing as a Class 3 chemical drug and is deemed to have passed the consistency evaluation, making it the first domestically approved product to do so.
With the improvement of people’s living standards, changes in dietary patterns, an accelerated pace of life, and increased stress levels, the number of people suffering from the “three highs”—hypertension, hyperlipidemia (lipid abnormalities), and hyperglycemia—is on the rise. At the same time, the patient population is becoming younger, making these conditions the “number one killer” among people aged 30 to 50. According to the “China Guidelines for Lipid Management (2023),” the prevalence of lipid abnormalities in China has been increasing in recent years, with the overall prevalence of lipid abnormalities among adults reaching as high as 35.6%. Data provided by the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases indicate that the number of people with lipid abnormalities in China has already exceeded 400 million. Prolonged lipid abnormalities can lead to lipid deposition on the vascular endothelium, triggering atherosclerosis and subsequently causing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Early intervention and treatment of lipid abnormalities can effectively prevent and alleviate the development of atherosclerotic diseases.
The niacin sustained-release tablets recently approved by Yichang Renfu are indicated for adult patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, aimed at lowering levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol, apolipoproteins, and triglycerides, while also increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. This product is a China-U.S. dual-registrant drug from Yichang Renfu and received FDA approval in the United States on June 10, 2019.
